10 things you didn’t know about me

Time to get a little personal again. Cause it’s been a while and I know you guys love these little top 10 thingies. So I thought it would be nice to tell you some things about me you probably didn’t know yet. So you can get to know me better. A nice little sunday read, haha! I would love to get to know you better too, so leave me a comment if you can. We shot this picture of the Mi adidas Superstar 80’s last week but didn’t make it to the blog!

Here we go:

  1. I got some questions about what I do for a living. Well; this blog right here is part of that. Which is something I never expected when I started this blog a little over 2 years ago. But it’s so so dope turning your passion into a job! Besides that I work freelance as a PR manager at one of the dopest Film production companies called ‘Vigics’ (1 day a week) & as a social media manager for a few smaller companies/brands. I quit my job to work freelance last November and it turned out to be the best decision ever!
  2. I am a huuuuge dork. But maybe some of you did notice that already. I make the worst word jokes & I’m always acting like a idiot when I’m with my friends/family. Also I’m super clumsy. But the mister claims that the reason for my clumsyness (is that even a word?) is that my feet are too small for my length. (I’m 1,88m/6.2 and my size is a 39/US mens 6,5)
  3. When I was younger I was dealing with extreme performance anxiety. Which sucked big time! Caused me a lot of trouble at school and during my studies. And even with getting my drivers license and pretty much everything else in life! But in the past few years I’ve made some big steps when it comes to that performance anxiety. ‘Girl on Kicks’ is one of the main reasons for that. Doing something for myself and getting to build something up from scratch that only you are responsable for has been a big help. And most of all seeing something you’ve started being succesfull def makes you feel more secure about yourself and gives you the confidence to keep going and start other things to! But let’s not forget about my boyfriend. Having someone in your life who supports you 100%, pushes you to be the best version of yourself and keeps challenging you is the best thing ever.
  4. Speaking about that boyfriend or ‘the mister’ as I like to call him. His name is Rome Le’vant, we’ve been together for almost 6 years and we’re living together in a tiny Amsterdam apartment in this area called ‘de Pijp’. He’s a musician and is going to drop his first album together with his band ‘Les Cooles De Ville’ this summer. It’s the old school soulfull kinda hip hop you don’t hear anymore nowadays (think; De La Soul, Dilla, A Tribe Called Quest, Q-tip etc) and I’m his biggest fan. Also he is the storemanager at a sneaker boutique in Amsterdam called Seventyfive. (fun fact; he’s about 15cm shorter than me!)
  5. I love food almost as much as I love sneakers. I’m a major foodie and so are pretty much all of my friends (a way of selecting my friends haha!). I love cooking (although I should cook more often) and there are just a few things I don’t like (for example; mushrooms, tofu, sauerkraut, rhubarb). And I love eating healthy but I’m also a big fan of pastry, pizza, fries etc. Just food in general.
  6. I’m super emotional, haha! Seriously I’m a giant crybaby. I don’t watch ‘Up’ (the pixar movie) anymore because the first 2 minutes already make me cry and make me feel seriously sad (and don’t get me started about Bambi). I cry when I’m happy, I cry when I’m sad, I cry when I’m nervous.. YUP, that’s me!
  7. I’m a sucker for bad action movies and comic movies. Already excited for the upcoming ‘Captain America: Civil War’ movie and saw ‘Batman v Superman’ on the day it came out. NERD.
  8. The kicks that got the whole sneaker collecting thing started was the Nike air max 1 Beastpack. The beastpacks were the first sneakers I really hunted down (a few weeks after their release, and I got them for retail!). I remember being so proud to have them and I remember how much my mom hated them, haha! I still own them but they’re super beaten so I don’t wear them any longer.
  9. I didn’t finish my studies. I studied Media, Information and Communication for a year and Graphic Design for 2,5 years. I found MIC a bit to theoretical and Graphic Design to practical. Plus I guess I’m not really a school person, haha! There are some moments I regret not getting my degree (and disappointing my parents etc) and it took some years to find out what I wanted to do, but I’m pretty happy with the way things worked out now.
  10. I grew up in a little town called Hoorn (30min from Amsterdam) and moved to Amsterdam when I was 19 years old. I have one younger brother, my dad owns a bar/restaurant and my mom is a elementary school teacher. My brother is working as the manager at my dads place and is planning on taking over the company when my dad retires. I have a very big family and spending time with my family is my favorite thing in the world!

Hopefully you’ve enjoyed getting to know more about me and I look forward to learning more about you!
